Model Technology's ModelSim Achieves Mixed-Language Simulation Sign-off from Toshiba

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2001--Model Technology, a Mentor Graphics (Nasdaq:MENT) company, today announced that its hardware description language (HDL) simulator, ModelSim®, has received mixed-language sign-off endorsement from Toshiba.

Toshiba's support for both VHDL and Verilog versions of ModelSim, along with ModelSim's language neutral licensing, provides designers with a simulation tool that can efficiently run register-transfer level (RTL) and gate-level simulation during the creation of high-level application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), including chips focusing on broadband, mixed signal and networking.

Due to the particular needs of communication ASICs, Toshiba required a dynamic simulation tool that could handle the complex and multiple language demands of the ASIC design. ModelSim, with its dual language capabilities and its increased performance in RTL and gate-level simulation, allows Toshiba designers to focus on more critical areas of the design process, instead of worrying about language constraints and simulation run times.

``ModelSim's ability to work in either VHDL or Verilog was a major incentive for Toshiba to sign-off on the tool,'' said Ulrich Roettcher, CAE manager of Toshiba European LSI Design and Engineering Center. ``Another significant factor was Model Technology's continued focus on performance and time-to-market constraints during RTL and specifically, gate-level simulation. ModelSim provides the necessary simulation solution for our communication ASICs, many of which contain multiple asynchronous blocks and operate at smaller and smaller deep sub-micron levels.''

``Toshiba's stamp of approval is an important accomplishment for ModelSim as we continue to expand our presence in the HDL simulation market,'' said John Lenyo, direct of marketing Model Technology. ``By partnering with Toshiba our ASIC customers now have a solution that fully addresses their mixed-language challenges in order to deliver faster simulation results.''
